As with other types of loss, it is normal for most people to go through a period of denial with hearing loss. Most people, believe it or not, allow themselves to struggle for a period of 5 to 7 years before addressing their hearing loss. And, trying to hide or compensate for it can be more obvious than any type of hearing help, especially when a person answers incorrectly, has a blank look on their face during attempted conversation, or doesn’t participate normally in a conversation. The first step to overcoming your communication problem is admitting to yourself and your nearest loved ones that you have a hearing loss that needs attention.
