Hearing Loss Linked to Dementia

Research is showing that there is a link between hearing loss and dementia. Patients with hearing loss show a higher incidence of developing dementia. There are many social factors involved in this but cognitively, it is felt that the brain is using most of it’s resources working on auditory processing which is leaving our cognition and memory areas lacking. It is important to treat the loss with the use of amplification to keep ourselves socially engaged and involved and to allow the brain to process what we are hearing more effectively.
